“Letting women know that they have a voice and that they can shape their own stories is liberating and empowering.”
One of our great Kenyan GLOBAL CHANGEMATES FELLOW is Yvonne. Her passion for women’s rights activism and all things techie lead her to found S.K.I.R.T.S. – Socially Keen Individuals Redefining Tech Spaces.
The initiative’s mission is to build a community of enthusiasts who are passionate about using tech for social impact and bridging the gender divide in tech. S.K.I.R.T.S endeavors to create a community of strong women who are informed and can challenge the status quo on proper governance and gender equity. S.K.I.R.T.S aims to create visibility of marginalized women and give them a voice, dignity and purpose.
Yvonne organizes meet-ups to equip grassroots vocal women with digital security skills in order to improve their privacy and security on the internet as well as to build capacity of women citizen journalists to use the internet as a platform for empowerment and advocacy for women rights.
